Buy Fresh NCK has great
potential, but I am not able to work with it at this time. Even so, if you are
interested in local foods and farm experiences, this site remains a great way to
hook up with the farm products available in north central Kansas. If you are a
vendor and would like to be on this site, you may contact me.
I am looking for a responsible
and caring person who would like to run Buy Fresh. I will pass on the rights to
use the images, the producer lists, the website and facebook page, and
information about the graphics design and printing resources. KS Crossroads
RC&D would consider hosting Buy Fresh temporarily to allow a person to raise
grant funds and apply for non-profit status.
Buy Fresh has the potential to
market local food & agri-tourist businesses using web-based tools like
facebook, You-tube, interactive maps, and an active website. It could offer
branding to Farmers’ Markets and businesses with signs, shopping bags, and more,
linking people back to the web presence. Buy Fresh could sponsor tours and
on-site visits to producers. It could link buyers and sellers at the restaurant
and institutional level … or open the world of fresh foods cooking and food
preservation to the public. Then again, it simply could be a clearinghouse for
ideas.
Another possibility is that
Buy Fresh NCK could become an Our Local Foods regional chapter. See
www.ourlocalfoodks.org. Julie Mettenburg, director of the Kansas Rural Center
will introduce this project at a workshop added to the February conference
